How To Make A Green House

Most folks would wish to know how to build themselves a homemade green house with as few problems as possible. Below are steps to follow toward building a green house.

Description.

A suitable winter frost resistant 2400mm wide ª 3000mm long greenhouse. It is portable, lightweight, cheap and easily constructed. It has a polythene film that is a clear UV resistant.

Timber’s size. The timber used is rough timber, not planed, and if you prefer the dressed timber then the measurements will have to be changed.

Someplace to plant the greenhouse. Pick a place where the winter sun will strategically permeate. A level surface and where its hilly or sloppy put a drainage system to deal with water redirection.

STEP 1. The base of greenhouse

Use a 100 ª 100 treated undressed timber commonly used for post fencing so readily available. The lengths are always 2.4m and 3m.

Create a diamond 3m ª 2.4m for the base fixing the timber using nail plates and galvanized nails.

Make sure the dual diagonal measurements are equal and make require adjustments if not. Therefore, the base must be square.

Ensure by using the water level method or the spirit level, that the base is level.

Knock pegs around the border to secure the base and the pegs should be flushed if they stick out higher than the base timber.

STEP 2. Side walls

Out of the 75 ª 50 undressed timber make a large frame 3000mm ª 1375mm, compartmentalize with four equal mini frames therein having 75 ª 50 horizontal top and bottom plates, vertical studs and diagonal bracing.

Ensure again like step 1 that the diagonal measurements are the same and hence cut and bond the bracing parts in place.

Use galvanized nails in joining the bottom plate of two side walls, standing erect, to the base boards.

STEP 3. The roof’s frames.

On the roof Cut;

* 5 rafters @ 1.9m, 5 rafters @ 1310mm, uprights 5 @ 327mm all cut at the angles.
* Triangular gussets at 500mm ª 500mm ª 500mm cut from 7mm plywood that is treated.

Interlace the frames on the ground in a roof pattern making certain the two points furthest are apart by 2.4m, then with flathead nails 50mm apart and one gusset on a frame, nail triangular gussets.

Place the roof frames atop the side walls making sure the roof top coincide with the individual side wall and remaining trio spaced equally in between. Nail them together.

Ensure that all the roof frames are straight and parallel.Join 150 ª 50 treated fascia board atop roof frames after the dual end roof frames plump were vertically and temporarily propped.

Put in place the window securing plate (75 ª 50) right at the back of the fascia board and below the apex of the roof frame.

Put roof on the windowless side and dig long nails from frame to mid sidewall plate.

STEP 4. The walls at the end

Still using the 75 ª 50 undressed timber cut 700 mm apart studs, top and bottom plates and bracing timbers and fix them all to place.

STEP 5. Windows

Use 50 ª 50 undressed timber for top frames and bottom frames and for the side and middle mullions use 75 ª 50 non-planed timber.

Make 30 degrees angle cut at the bottom of the window, making two windows put butt hinges screwed to top frame and window securing plate. Fix window latch and row short piece timber between rafters.

STEP 6. Doors

Make door frames using 50 ª 50 timber and cut from 7mm gussets

Make certain the frames are square.

STEP 7. The green house’s covering.

Use the UV resistant polythene holding it with thin battens. Cover both windows and door.
